Abstract

This paper results from the thought of three researchers coming from diverse economic, social, geographic and political realities, in an attempt to contribute with solutions for the main challenge of the next decade – the reform of the state. As such, in the first place, it is understood that the cost of doing nothing in the face of a new reality is high, since the current welfare state will go into decline in a few years due to its excessive dimension. Secondly, it is believed that the present social crisis, as well as the economic-financial one, represents an opportunity. Finally, that this is the historic moment to undertake a movement of state reinvention, with the complete individual freedom of its citizens has its gravitational centre, as a decisive element to revive the democratic spirit through the reduction of the state’s weight in the economy and society.
